Synopsis
This seminar is open to all SMU students who are interested in both information systems and operations management, particularly to students with the following academic combinations:
BSc (ISM) & BBM, double degree
BSc (ISM) + Operations Management major
BBM + ISM 2nd major |
The event of the day will include, launching of our Students' Interest Group (SIG) webpage, introduction to the SMU courses which are necessary for IS-OM combination, student's presentation, industry guest speaker, discussion forum and our SIG membership drive.
The guest speaker is Mr. James Loo. He will talk to the students about the importance and relevance of applying IS in the supply chain and logistics business. Students will discover the myriad of wonderful things that can be done when cross-trained in IS and Operations Management.
About the speaker
Mr. James Loo is one of the pioneers in Y3 Technologies. He spearheaded YCH Group's move to spin off their IT department into an independent IT company - Y3 Technologies.
James leads the company with more than 20 years of management experience in the IT industry including having served as General Manager at Cincom Systems, (an ERP ISV), Managing Director at ObTech Asia Pacific, an NEC Corp subsidiary focusing on IT consultancy and services and as Director of e-Business at Viewlocity Asia Pacific.
James also has a wide-ranging and direct working experience with top MNC clients on strategic system project, operations and management in ASEAN, China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan particularly in the area of manufacturing & distribution.
Also the ex-Deputy Chairman of the Singapore eSCM Council, James holds a Master of Business (Information Technology) from RMIT University, Melbourne Australia and won the 1992 IBM Award for "Overall Top Student". He is a member of the Steering Committee of Singapore RFID Alliance ... etc and in the Singapore Logistics Association Technology/e-Logistics Committee. He is also a frequent speaker at Logistics, Supply Chain and e-Business seminars and events around the region including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan. |
