Intelligent decision support systems
Overview
Our research focuses on the analysis, modeling and design of intelligent decision support (DSS) systems for business/management decision making, leveraging on as well as tackling challenges arising from advances in infocomm technology and information systems.
The underlying research methodology is a multi-disciplinary approach at the intersection of Computer Science (AI), Management Science, and Computational Game Theory.
Besides addressing research issues from the modeling and computational perspectives, we are also interested in designing software tools and frameworks that provides intelligent decision support to real-world operating environments, leveraging on IT such as grid, service- oriented architectures, semantic web, and software agents.
Our research is motivated by and deployed in commercial, government, as well as military organisations.

Significant Partnerships
The Logistics Institute - Asia-Pacific (TLI-AP), Defence Logistics
- Associate Professor LAU Hoong Chuin is the Programme Director for the Jaguar Programme, a multi-year defence logistics effort funded by Singapore's Ministry of Defence. Professor Lau is also cross-appointed at TLI-AP as an Adjunct Fellow.
Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), a Research Institute of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR)
-
Researchers from SIMTech's Planning and Operations Management Group are collaborating with our IDSS faculty. One example is SIMTech's participation in our research project, "Time Sensitive Flexible Coordination in a Service Oriented Enterprise Chain". SIMTech researcher LYE Kong Wei is also cross-appointed at SIS as an Adjunct Assistant Professor.
The International Trading Institute (ITI) @ SMU
Through ITI, experts from the commodity trading industry are working with Assistant Professor CHENG Shih-Fen in developing the next-generation commodity trading simulation. The commodity trading simulation developed by Professor CHENG is used extensively in the ITI-sponsored education/training programs.
