Enterprise 2.0 - The Next Frontier in Enterprise Services
Abstract The Web 2.0 trend with facebook, instant messaging, wikipedia, blogging, etc. are receiving a lot of attention on the consumer front. Enterprises recognize that they can not ignore this trend and are already experimenting with some of these emerging technologies. These Web 2.0 applications are designed to target the general public or consumer use without having to consider issues that of great concern to enterprise. As a result, when used within enterprise directly, it often runs into difficulties or restrictions with limited success. Nevertheless, what remains untapped is a whole new category of innovative Enterprise 2.0 applications and services that could unleash significant business values to the enterprise. It will require a different mindset based on a more balanced community-centric and yet process-centric approach to empower management and mobilization of communities relevant to enterprises. This opens up a new frontier of opportunities to drive innovative enterprise services distinct and yet complementary to ERP and CRM systems already deployed within enterprises today. About the speaker James Ong, Ph.D, is the Founder and CEO of Origami Frontiers, a technology company pioneering on Enterprise 2.0 solutions for mobilizing people, content and community on the mobile and virtual frontier. He has over twenty years of experience in the technology industry in Asia, US and Europe and has served leading companies in various industry sectors including consumer goods and retail, education, financial services, government, high tech, telecommunication and automotive. Prior to Origami Frontiers, he was CEO and Owner of Hello Technology, Singapore where he led the company to profitability and penetrate the Chinese market. Before that, he was the Director of Technical Sales at Trilogy, USA where he was a key member serving in multiple leadership roles to help grow the company to a $250 million global enterprise with well over 1400 staff. He was a Member of Technical Staff at Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation (MCC) USA where he performs research and technology transfer in Deductive Database, Knowledge Mining and Artificial Intelligence. James received his PhD in Management Information System from the McCombs School of Business, Master degree and Bachelor degree with Highest Honors in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin. His doctorate thesis focuses on business process modeling and automation. He has also published more than 15 technical and business papers in books, major journals and conferences and has been featured speakers at Red Herring Wireless and China Computer World. |
