Student Admission The minimum entry requirement for admission into the PhD programme is a Bachelor degree with good honors, or a Master degree, in a relevant discipline. Candidates should be keen to pursue research at the intersection of IT and business.
- Good TOEFL scores: Applicants whose medium of instruction for their Bachelor degree is not in English will be required to submit TOEFL (international test) scores.
- Good GRE scores: SMU's GRE institution code is 2861.
- References: Each application must be supported by recommendations from two academic referees.

Scholarships
Scholarships are available for full-time PhD students on a competitive basis. Subject to satisfactory progress, a scholarship holder will receive a monthly allowance in addition to waiver of tuition fees and registration fees. Students may also receive extra emoluments from research assistantships, instruction assistantships or industry grants. Students on full scholarship will receive a monthly stipend of S$2,300 in additional to a waiver of tuition fees and registration fees for a maximum tenure of four (4) years. The scholarship requires student to be on full-time course and in good standing in the programme. Starting from AY2009-10, monthly stipend amount will be revised to S$2,400.

As part of their PGR training, SMU PGR Scholars are expected to work, without remuneration, as part-time RA/TA for up to a maximum 7 hours per week. The nature of the unpaid work will be determined by the Dean of the School that the SMU PGR Scholar belongs to.
After fulfilling the 7 hours of unpaid RA/TA work per week, SMU PGR Scholars may work for additional hours as a paid part-time RA/TA, provided these additional hours do not exceed 7 hours per week. Prior to engaging in the paid part-time RA/TA work, the SMU PGR Scholar needs to obtain prior permission from the SMU Office of Research and the Dean of the School that he/she belongs to. The rate of payment and the procedures for hiring and payment for these additional hours will be in accordance with the SMU's prevailing guidelines.
