| Bachelor of Science (IS Management)
The BSc (IS Management) Programme is shaped by industry and academic leaders who understand the forces of global change and the essential skills needed to leverage Information Technology in business settings.
Local students from junior colleges, or international education institutions as well as those without prior experience in information systems will be guided through the paces by faculty and peers as they gain entry into this new area of study. For students with IT and software experience, our BSc (IS Management) Programme is designed to further stretch and develop your interest in this area.
Above all else, the BSc (IS Management) Programme sets our graduates up with skills and knowledge that are applicable across different management areas. Our professional training and preparation is designed to expand career options, enabling our graduates to become Business IT professionals with long lasting, transferable skills.
The BSc (IS Management) Programme is built upon three foundation pillars, namely:
-
Grounding in foundations and applications of information systems technology and information systems management.
-
Exposure to complex, real-world business processes through numerous examples used in course discussions and assignments, internships, and interactions with industry professionals and leaders.
-
Cross training in business, management or social science areas through foundation, core courses and electives offered by the other SMU schools.

A regular SMU undergraduate degree programme requires a student to complete 36 courses (including exemptions) along with an internship programme.
In addition to this basic structure, the BSc (IS Management) undergraduate is expected to complete a second major either within any of the other schools of SMU or within SIS. Completion of the second major typically requires an additional 2 to 4 courses of study.

The Blue boxes represent the 14 core BSc (IS Management) courses. The lighter shades of blue are the 5 Information Systems Foundation Courses. The darker shades at the center are the 5 Information Systems Advaced Topics. The 2 dark blue boxes at the bottom are the IS Application Project and IS Depth Electives.
The Yellow boxes indicate the business oriented electives, comprising two pre-specified courses and four of your own choice. The Second Major box is a combination of yellow and blue indicating as the additional second major elective can either be from SIS (blue) or any of the other SMU schools (yellow).
The Green boxes reflect the remaining 16 courses which comprise the common SMU experience for all students. The SMU Foundation Courses and University Core Course are already specified. Under General Evaluation, Global and Regional Studies, and Career Skills, students choose their course from a large selection of electives.
Most students complete the Programme between 3.5 to 4 years because of overseas exchanges, second majors, extended internships and other areas of development requiring additional time.
Each term, students take courses from all three columns. By working on business-oriented Information Technology & Systems courses, Business Management & Application courses and SMU Liberal Arts, Leadership & Communications courses in parallel, students build the mix of skills that enable them to be highly capable Business-IT Professionals.
