“SMU is exceptionally well positioned to produce business-focused service systems professionals in line with Service Science vision. Over the past five years, our School of Information Systems (SIS) has been pioneering new educational approaches right at the intersection of information technology, IT solutions and business needs – which means we have been working in the spirit of service science all along. With this new national emphasis on Service Science, Management and Engineering, SMU can move even farther and faster in our education and research initiatives at the intersection of IT applications and business and industry innovation.
We have already started to put in place a specialisation track in Service Systems & Solutions within the Advanced Business Technology second major that will groom SMU Service Systems professionals who can design, execute, lead and manage service innovation in every sector of the economy. Our new Service Systems & Solutions track strongly benefits from our existing capabilities in financial service systems, supply chain systems, business intelligence, and decision analytics for business decision making. The ease and flexibility with which SMU SIS students can combine the IT side of Service Science with the business, organisational and social science content makes the SMU environment especially well suited to pursue this type of education and research.
Most importantly, Singapore students are especially fortunate. With the new IDA-sponsored National Infocomm Scholarships for Service Science related programmes at the universities, students have a fantastic opportunity to be first wave of leaders to demonstrate the power of Service Science thinking and skill sets.”
