The PhD in Information Systems programme is accepting full-time applications only. The programme is not accepting part-time students.

Upon successful submission of your online application, you will be given an application number. Do take note of this application number for future enquiry and checking of application status.
Important notes:
- Online applications received without the complete set of supporting documents will be rejected.
- If full application materials (online application and complete set of supporting documents) are received after the closing date, application will be considered for the next in-take term.
- Applications will not be processed until application fee is made.

Please use the online application system to submit your application. Supplementary instructions are given in each section of the online application form. Once you have completed the online application, we suggest you print and keep a copy for your record. Please send in the required supporting documents once you have submitted your online application. Your application will only be processed when we have received the supporting documents.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language
- International Test)
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Applicants whose medium of instruction for their Bachelor degree is not in English are required to submit TOEFL (international test) scores. For TOEFL registration information, please visit the website http://www.toefl.org. SMU’s TOEFL institution code is 9014.
GRE (Graduate Record Examinations - General Test Scores)
All applicants (except for NUS / NTU / SMU graduates) are required to take GRE or GMAT.
For GRE registration information, please visit the website http://www.gre.org. SMU's GRE institution code is 2861. Test taken within 5 years will be accepted.
GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) - For applicants pursuing ISM area
Students who are interested to pursue in the area of Information Systems & Management (ISM), may choose to substitute the GRE scores with GMAT scores. Our Programme's code is: F8D-Z4-04. Personal & Research Statements
Applicants are required to submit a personal statement and research statement in the online application system. The files should either be a PDF or Word Doc format. You may wish to have the softcopy ready before you start working on your online application.
- Personal Statement - Please discuss your academic and career objectives. Be specific about the area in which you plan to study, and your reasons for wishing to study at this University.
- Research Statement - Please propose a research topic that you would like to undertake in the program. Elaborate on the technical potential and real-world relevance of the topic, and how do you think our program could equip you for this research.

All online applications must be follow up with supporting documents.
All application requires 2 referees (academic referees preferred). Please request your referees to mail the completed form directly to us. Referees may also send in their completed form via their official mailbox to sis_phd@smu.edu.sg.

Upon submitting your application online, please send in a clear photocopy of the following supporting documents. Supporting documents submitted will not be returned. Online applications received without supporting documents will not be processed. For all non-English certificates or documents, a copy of the original certificates/documents and its official English translation must be submitted.
