Amongst the wide range of scholarships and awards available to students of the School of Information Systems, the following lists those which cater especially to students of the Master of IT in Business (Service Sector Analytics) Programme:




MITB Scholarship

The MITB Scholarship, offered by the MITB (Service Sector Analytics) Programme, aims to encourage outstanding students to pursue the MITB (Service Sector Analytics) Programme, to achieve academic excellence in service process delivery, data analytics and technology. A maximum of five scholarships valued up to S$5,000 each, will be awarded every year commencing Academic Year 2011-12.

  • Eligibility Criteria

    To be eligible for this Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
    • Have outstanding academic results
    • Demonstrate leadership potential
    • Is resourceful, creative, and innovative
    • Must possess qualities of MITB ambassador
    • Must not be a recipient of other scholarship or sponsorship
    • Special consideration may be given to students with financial needs
  • Tenure and Benefits of the Scholarship

    • Each scholarship, valued at S$5,000 is tenable for the duration of the scholar's studies (up to two years), subject to good academic results
    • The Scholarship will offer partial financial support towards annual tuition fees
    • No bond is required of the scholarship recipients

No application is required for the MITB Scholarship, which is awarded to students in the MITB (Service Sector Analytics) Programme after due consideration by the faculty, based on the criteria listed above.

SAS Scholarship

The SAS Scholarship, established by SAS Institute Pte Ltd, aims to encourage both outstanding part-time and full-time students in the MITB (Service Sector Analytics) Programme to achieve academic excellence in their studies, particularly in the learning of business intelligence technology and applications. Up to 4 scholarships will be awarded each year and each scholarship award is valued at S$7,500.

  • Eligibility Criteria

    To be eligible for this Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
    • Part-time and Full-time students of any nationality matriculated in the MITB (Service Sector Analytics) Programme
    • Is creative, resourceful and innovative
    • Selected students must work on the Capstone project using SAS as the software application
    • Special consideration may be given to students with financial needs
  • Tenure and Benefits of the Scholarship

    • Each scholarship, valued at S$7,500 is tenable for the duration of the scholar's studies (up to two years), subject to good academic results
    • The Scholarship will offer partial financial support towards annual tuition fees
    • No bond is required of the scholarship recipients
    • The Donor and/or its designated companies may offer career opportunities to the scholar.

All MITB (Service Sector Analytics) students are considered by SAS for the SAS Scholarship, and short listed candidates will be invited for face-to-face interviews with SAS representatives. The successful candidates will be given an Award certificate during the SAS Forum, usually held in the last quarter of each year.

Alexandra Health's T-Lab Scholarship

The SMU-Alexandra Health's T-Lab was formed in 2010 as a collaboration between Alexandra Health and SMU to develop fresh and better ways to improve service delivery, quality, productivity and experience in the healthcare sector. In support of this, the Alexandra Health's T-Lab Scholarship, aims to motivate both outstanding part-time and full-time students in the MITB (Service Sector Analytics) Programme to academic excellence and to apply what they have learned to transform the delivery of healthcare services. Up to 2 scholarships will be awarded each year and each scholarship award is valued at S$7,500.

  • Eligibility Criteria

    To be eligible for this Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
    • Part-time and Full-time students of any nationality matriculated in the MITB (Service Sector Analytics) Programme
    • Have outstanding academic results
    • Is creative, resourceful and innovative
    • Selected students must work on the Capstone project and attach with Alexandra Health's T-Lab
    • Special consideration may be given to students with financial needs
  • Tenure and Benefits of the Scholarship

    • Each scholarship, valued at S$7,500 is tenable for the duration of the scholar's studies (up to two years), subject to good academic results
    • The Scholarship will offer partial financial support towards annual tuition fees
    • No bond is required of the scholarship recipients
    • The Donor and/or its designated companies may offer career opportunities to the scholar.

All MITB (Service Sector Analytics) students are considered by Alexandra Health for this Scholarship, and short listed candidates will be invited for face-to-face interviews with Alexandra Health representatives.

TCS-SMU iCity Scholarship

The TCS-SMU Urban IT Solutions Hub is a new collaboration between Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and SMU to create the blueprint, transition plans and business models for a cloud-based information services platform that will enable the future generation of intelligent cities, across Asia and worldwide. The TCS-SMU iCity Scholarship aims to encourage MITB (Service Sector Analytics) students to apply their learning and creativity in using data analytics in urban IT solutions. Up to 8 scholarships will be awarded each year and each scholarship award is valued at S$10,000.

  • Eligibility Criteria

    To be eligible for this Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
    • Full-time students of any nationality matriculated in the MITB (Service Sector Analytics) Programme, Part-time students will be considered on a case-by-case basis
    • Have outstanding academic results
    • Is creative, resourceful and innovative
    • Special consideration may be given to students with financial needs
    • Must not be a recipient of other scholarships
    • All short listed candidates will be invited for face-to-face interviews.
  • Tenure and Benefits of the Scholarship

    • Each scholarship, valued at S$10,000 is tenable for the duration of the scholar's studies (up to two years), subject to good academic results
    • The Scholarship will offer partial financial support towards annual tuition fees
    • No bond is required of the scholarship recipients.
    • Selected students must work on urban IT solutions project sponsored from this TCS-SMU collaboration

All MITB (Service Sector Analytics) students are considered for this Scholarship, and short listed candidates will be invited for face-to-face interviews with TCS representatives.

WDA ICT –STEP Scholarship

As part of the Skills Training for Excellence Programme (STEP)1, the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) is jointly working with the Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF) to offer up to 24 Infocomm Technology (ICT) - STEP Scholarships for the ICT sector. The ICT-STEP Scholarship is supported by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), and aims to groom Singapore Citizens who are currently employed in the ICT sector (both ICT organisations and end-user organisations) and have been identified by employers for potential leadership positions in the company.

WDA, with the support of IDA, is appointing the SiTF as a Programme Manager to administer the ICT-STEP Scholarship awards. As a Programme Manager, SiTF will take on the responsibilities to market and promote the ICT-STEP Scholarship to the ICT sector; screen, interview and evaluate applicants together with WDA and the degree-conferring Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) for the ICT-STEP Scholarship.

WDA, IDA and SiTF have jointly identified the following Masters programmes to be supported under the ICT-STEP Scholarship:

  • Course Overview
    This professional Master degree programme is a first in Asia. It allows ICT professionals to learn the linkages across service delivery process, data, operations, analytics, technology and architecture of several service industries, such as healthcare, hospitality, retail, supply chain, transportation and entertainment.

  • Target Group
    It is targeted at professionals with several years of IT and/or operations related work experience seeking to advance their career in technology and operations within the service sector.

  • Eligibility Criteria
    To be eligible for the ICT-STEP Scholarship, applicants must:
    • Be Singapore Citizen;
    • Be supported by employers and have been identified by employers for future leadership positions within the company;
    • Meet all the course admission criteria as stipulated by the IHLs;
    • Possess all the relevant professional experience.
  • Application & Programme Funding
    Applicants will have to go for a screening and interview process conducted jointly by SiTF, the IHL and WDA. Selected candidates for the ICT-STEP Scholarship can expect up to 90% funding of the course fee, subject to terms and conditions. Successful applicants are required to serve a 1 year minimum service period with the sponsoring company upon the completion of the Master Programme.

Outstanding Student Awards

The School of Information Systems recognises the outstanding academic achievements of students in the MITB (Service Sector Analytics) Programme through the Outstanding Student Awards. The details are:

  1. For each graduation batch, the programme will present up to three outstanding student awards of S$3,000 each
  2. Recipients will be determined purely based on merit
  3. Must not be a recipient of other scholarship, sponsorship or award
IDA's Top Student Award

IDA will present the Top Student Award for 4 consecutive years for the top graduating student of MITB SSA programme in the form of a gold medal and book prize of S$1500. This award is to be presented at the graduation ceremony. Recipients will be determined purely based on merit for the entire programme's result
