Master of IT in Business
The world of business is the largest user and consumer of IT and Information Systems. At the School of Information Systems (SIS) in the Singapore Management University (SMU), we understand the importance of Information Technology (IT) in business.
SIS focuses on designing and delivering programmes which integrate and align IT with business, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Master of IT in Business (MITB) programme is one such programme targeted at working professionals who are IT trained and have operations experience. These professionals want to stay within the IT arena in their career while progressing into senior executive positions. MITB programme is specifically designed to meet these special needs which a typical MBA programme does not cater for.
Many IT professionals who want to move up into senior positions, recognised that they need to improve their skills of managing people and finance. They look out for a graduate level programme which will provide them the essential business methods and management concepts, and at the same time enhance their ability to manage technology and operations projects.
The MITB programme is the answer to their need. The MITB programme is akin to a "MBA programme in IT". It equips IT professionals to face the challenges in the technology and operations space, which involves processes, IT solutions and architecture, finance, business and people. SMU-SIS is the school which has the experience and ability to design and develop curriculum that can provide the close linkage between IT and business.
In 2007, the MITB programme started its first track in Financial Services (FS) which is a sector focused degree where students are trained the process, operations, technology solutions and related innovation strategies of banking and financial services. In August 2010, MITB(FS) will welcome its fourth intake of students.
In January 2011, the MITB programme started its second track in Service Sector Analytics (SSA) which is a horizontal-focused degree where students will learn the linkages across service delivery process, data, operations, analytics, technology & architecture of several service industries, including healthcare, hospitality, retail, supply chain, transportation and entertainment. A data-centric perspective for understanding service delivery with the emphasis on emerging "next-practices" of real time, adaptive data analytics with massive amounts and multiple types of data.
