Working together with Technology & Operations leaders in the Financial Services sector, we have identified the core competencies required for a T&O professional to evolve from a having a specialist role to having a broader T&O-related managerial role. The same competencies are also essential for a professional working in other industries to transit into T&O-related responsibilities within banking and financial markets.
- A solid working knowledge of T&O fundamentals from an entrepreneurial perspective, based on understanding:
- End-to-end processes and work flows for the main families of financial products
- The purpose of the operations functions supporting the product families
- IT solutions (functionality, data management, performance requirements, architecture) used for front, middle & back office functions, corporate functions, & external interactions
- Product-Process-Operations-Technology linkages
- Ability to visualise how changes across product, process, operations and IT impact end-to-end work flow, service delivery and process performance, and to follow up after project execution with empirical analysis of the actual impacts.
- Ability to organise and communicate one's knowledge of T&O in terms of the SMU 11 views of the SMU Unified Banking Process Framework.
- Ability to execute and manage change and transformation projects through effective coordination with specialists and managers across the related Technology, Operations and Business units of the Bank.
- Ability to consult and collaborate with Senior Management from various business functions and units of the Bank to facilitate analysis, decision making and execution across Business, Operations and Technology in more integrated ways.
The Profile of a MITB (SSA) Graduate
The Service Sector Analytics track work closely with our industry partners from several service sectors including healthcare, hospitality, retail, supply chain, tourism and entertainment, and government. Together with our industry partners, who are leading global and regional service sector firms, we have identified the following core competencies required for a T&O professional to assume senior and managerial role in the Service Sector in the arena of business analytics.
- Ability to manage Technology & Operations projects in customer and operations related data analytics, to gain business insights and make better business decisions.
- Ability to understand how and when data is captured and managed in the business process, and to propose improvements to the business process to enable deeper analysis.
- Ability to understand key business processes in several service sectors to adapt and adopt best practices to enable revolutionary change.
- Ability to use analytics solutions effectively to integrate massive amounts of increasingly real time data from multiple sources.
- Ability to understand and analyse the linkages across key processes, operations, data, technology solutions and management supervision.
