Learning through Internships

SMU facilitates our students' professional development and employment through internships. SMU strongly believes in exposing our students to the dynamic world of business through internship. Through a total immersion in a real business environment, internship is an excellent opportunity for SMU students to put into practice what they have learnt, explore career possibilities, stretch themselves beyond their current limits and realise their full potential.

Find out more about:

SMU undergraduates undertake a minimum of 10 weeks up to 15 weeks of internship with a business organisation, typically during the vacation periods from mid April to mid August and in December each year. Students usually go for multiple internships after Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3. Extended internships can also be done during the 6 month term break and 1 term on leave.

Besides giving students real life work and professional experience, the internship programme also provides sponsoring organisations with:

  • Access to an excellent source of highly-motivated career minded individuals
  • Project help that may be shelved due to manpower and cost constraints
  • A cost effective recruitment process for potential employees
  • A shorter learning curve and increased productivity for those interns that become full time employees with their internship sponsor
