Singapore to groom IT security experts

In brief - New IT research unit at SMU
A new research facility at SMU's School of Information Systems to develop city-wide IT systems was launched yesterday by SMU and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).  The facility will receive $6 million in funding from TCS over the next three years, which includes about 10 postgraduate scholarships to be awarded to SMU students each year.

Grads' starting pay back to pre-crisis levels
The Ministry of Manpower's latest annual report on wages found that among those in four-year degree programmes, information systems management graduates from SMU commanded the highest average starting salary of $3,474 last year. They were followed by SMU economics graduates at $3,430.

Singapore places a lot of emphasis on meritocracy where academic performance is a significant component, and scholarship-holders are hailed as exemplars and are known to be fast-tracked in their careers.
