Graduation, at last, against all odds
LIEW Chong Heng graduated from SMU with a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management with high merit on Saturday despite suffering from spinal muscular atrophy. His older brother Chong Choon who suffers from the same condition but also graduated from SMU last year with a degree in Business Management.

Ko Kheng Hwa stepping down from EDB post
Ko Kheng Hwa [Advisory Board member in the Lee Kong Chian School of Business and School of Information Systems] is stepping down after spending more than seven years at the helm of the Economic Development Board (EDB). Mr Ko will join the private sector after 29 years in the public sector and is succeeded by Dr Beh Swan Gin, current EDB assistant managing director.

[SMU SIS graduate] Priyam SARAF was a Deputy Chief Adjudicator of the fourth Asian Universities Debating Championship. The team from Nanyang Technological University won the championship.

The People Factor
In 2006, Infocomm manpower in Singapore grew 7 per cent to bring the number of infocomm professionals in Singapore to 120,000 in 2006. Under the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore's (IDA) iN2015 masterplan, the goal is to create an additional 80,000 infocomm jobs by 2015.
The Service Science Management and Engineering (SSME) programme was launched recently to nurture multi-disciplinary infocomm talent.
