Impacts of the Programme on Student Employment

All of the part time students were already employed. Several of the part time students were promoted in their companies while progressing through the programmes.

The 2 SIS students who did the programme as part of Bsc (IS Management) – MITB (Financial Services) fast track have both found employment in the Financial Services Industry. Daniel Goh currently works at the Deutsche Bank as a Graduate Analyst (under the Management Associate Programme), while Melvin Leng is working at
BNP Paribas Fixed Income/Treasury Department as a Graduate Trainee.

At the same time, Saw Chee Kong and Soh Kah Mui will return to their former jobs.

Mr Kiran Prasad Acharya will return to Nepal under the Colombo Plan Scholarship – Government of Singapore Joint Collaboration, to further his career opportunity with the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies.

As of the end of August, the rest of the part time students were busy interviewing with potential employers in the Financial Service Industry.

MITB Expansion Plans

Adding Course Offerings for MITB (Financial Services)

The Master of IT in Business (Financial Services) started classes for the 3rd intake of full-time and part-time students in August 2009. We are excited to see that the intake size has grown to 32. We have students from Germany, Taiwan, Japan and Korea. In line with the continuous improvement plans, we will be expanding the course offerings for the Banking Processes, Solutions and Technology series of courses (Series 3) courses over time. The 3 new courses planned are:

  • Financial Markets Solutions & Architecture
  • Banking Product Lifecycle Implementation
  • FS Operational Risks: Processes, Information, Systems & Architecture
Note: course names may be modified

The addition of these 3 new courses related to Banking Processes, Solutions and Technology  offers our students more flexibility in selecting courses to meet their interests and needs.

Adding a New Track, MITB (Service Industries)

SIS will launch a new track in the MITB programme to address the needs of service industries which are strategic to Singapore. The key principles in designing for the new MITB (Service Industries) Track are as follows:

  • An integrated Technology & Operations Focus
  • A data centric perspective for understanding service delivery in selected service industries
  • Emphasis on linkages across Service Delivery Process, Data, Operations, Analytics, IT Solutions & Enterprise IT Architecture
  • Emphasis on emerging “next-practices” of real time, adaptive data analytics with massive amounts and multiple types of data
  • Emphasis  on interactive pedagogy, learning-by-doing, and learning-to-learn
  • The use of real world scenarios and examples from selected service industry segments of strategic interests to Singapore and the region

    • Hospitality, Tourism & Entertainment (including the Integrated Resorts)
    • Supply Chain & Distribution and Retail
    • Telecommunications and Network Management
    • Public Sector & e-Government
    • Healthcare

The same principles are used to drive continues improvement in the ongoing MITB (Financial Services) Track. For the new service industry track, however, all examples and domain specific course will be based on the strategic service sector segments listed above.

Careful design is already underway. We are confident that our existing and new MITB tracks are addressing the needs for attracting and developing the next generation of Technology Operations leaders, as well as CIO's across a wide range of Service Industries.
