Partnership with Standard Chartered Bank

The Standard Chartered iLAB@SMU has just celebrated its second birthday.

Dozens of SIS students have worked on innovative banking specific service innovation projects through the iLAB, working hand-in-hand with Standard Chartered professionals. SIS students participating in iLAB innovation efforts have accumulated highly differentiating experience that has accelerated and strengthened their professional development and expanded their career options.

You can find six iLAB sponsored projects completed during 2007 in our IS Application Project summary books. See projects #18-21, and #25-26 on IS Application Project Posters.

Some of these projects are being implemented in multiple countries to thousands of people. These projects were originally created, demonstrated and proven by SIS students.

The iLAB is continuing into its 3rd year, and is an outstanding source of real-world, banking related business challenges for SIS students looking for topics for their upper year IS Application Project.

KOH Lian Chee

SCB-SMU iLab Programme Manager & SIS Instructor
"Students working with the iLab will experience real-life business issues and learn how innovations can give businesses that leading-edge. During the course of the projects, students get the opportunity to interact with the bank's professionals and will invariably be exposed to the banking corporate environment and culture. They will learn about the value of intellectual property to businesses. The student teams and interns that have gone through projects with the iLab 'grow' in terms of their professionalism and confidence in the handling of 'real-world' issues. To top it all off, the bank rewards outstanding project teams and individuals as well as provides pre-graduation employment opportunities for selected 'Young Stars' ."
