SIS Industry Partnerships
Partnership with SAS
SAS is a
global company with world wide headquarters based in the
U.S. with annual revenues exceeding US$2 Billion and is the leading Business Intelligence & Analytics solutions
provider
to government and industry.
SAS is also a fascinating and highly admired company, long regarded as being one of the most desirable organisations to work for, and is well known as being the world's largest privately held software company.
On 06 May 2008, the launch of the new SAS-SMU Enterprise Intelligence Laboratory (SEIL) at SMU was announced. This 50 workstation teaching and project room gives our SIS students access to the entire SAS suite of enterprise Business Intelligence & Analytics solutions.
Our new SIS specialisation track in Business Intelligence & Analytics (BIA) will work very closely with the SEIL. Through this partnership between the BIA curriculum and the SEIL, SIS students will have ample opportunity to create, apply and leverage leading-edge solutions for Business Intelligence & Analytics.
The truly innovative and unique aspect of the SEIL is that it is the very first time that SAS has set up a THREE-WAY Partnership in Singapore with an academic institution that includes SAS, the university partner, as well as SAS' full ecosystem of customers who can provide real-world problems, internships and employment.
Just wait till SAS and SMU SIS jointly introduce the world's first undergraduate enrichment experiences to get certified as a Business Analytics Analysts!

"The surge in interest in Business Intelligence and Business Analytics among organisations today is a natural progression from the many years of transactional and legacy system implementation. However, while the interest is high, the ability to execute is low due to the shortage of skilled professionals in these areas. Globally, SAS has been working closely with industry and tertiary institutions to solve this problem through introducing BI/BA into student curriculum.
In Singapore, SAS is working with Singapore Management University and we have jointly set up the SAS-SMU Enterprise Intelligence Lab. With its creative approach to education and responsiveness to industry trends, SMU is a natural choice. SAS will be contributing Enterprise Intelligence software, hardware, professional time and scholarships to support the partnership. The SEIL will offer a platform to students of SMU who wish to pursue their knowledge and skills in BI/BA and continued Business Analytics education for industry professionals. This is an important initiative which aims to contribute to the eco-system for this industry and it has received support from numerous private and public sector organisations." |
