Global Exposure
SIS undergraduate students grab the opportunity to gain international experiences through SIS Business Study Missions and International Exchange.
Business Study Missions
Business Study Mission is a special type of course offered by SMU's Lee Kong Chian School of Business. Students who register for a Business Study Mission spend an entire semester preparing for the trip by researching the country and companies they will be visiting. At the end of the semester, they make the trip.
Since SMU's inception in 2000, Business Study Missions have taken SMU students to nearly every part of the world.
Recently, SIS students with particular interests in visiting leading IT businesses in Silicon Valley and India convinced some of their favourite SIS professors to lead Business Study Missions to these two places.
Two groups of SIS undergraduate students undertook the Business Study Missions (BSM) to Silicon Valley and Bangalore in July and April 2007 respectively.

International Exchange Opportunities
Our SIS undergraduate students travel all over the world by participating in SMU's international exchange programme at various prestigious universities.
Check out where the International Exchange Programme has taken our SIS Students here.
Below are some of the valuable experiences shared by our SIS exchange students.

"The University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) is an Ivy League university in the US with one of the best business schools in the world. Having studied abroad at UPenn, I was pleasantly surprised by how strikingly similar the seminar room experience was between UPenn and SMU. In a few short years, SMU and SIS have come a long way to becoming the UPenn of the Far East .
Some of the most talented students from all around the world attend UPenn. Spending a semester among them, I had the opportunity to benchmark my own academic development against these extremely motivated individuals. My study abroad semester allowed me to discover new learning experiences and to appreciate different cultures. Having emerged from my first international exchange experience as a more complete individual, I am now motivated to further propel my personal development to greater heights on my second exchange opportunity to the University of Bath, UK."

"This exchange allows me to experience independent living in a country that is linguistically, culturally and geographically different from Singapore. Those 5 months abroad has definitely broadened my perspective and matured my thinking which will help me prepare for the imminent working career."

"I did my exchange programme in Barcelona, Spain and it was the most incredible thing that had happened to me. I finished 5 full modules in ESADE, Barcelona (with very satisfactory grades if I say so myself). However, studying was not all that we did there. I wouldn't say we are there simply to relax and have fun but it was a definite switch of pace from what we are experiencing in Singapore and that makes it such an important experience. Furthermore, the friends that you make and the places that you go simply change your life and your perspectives on anything environmental, political or simply recreational.
In a sense, I would say that it should not be a decision on whether to go or not, but whether you have the ability to go. Ability includes clearing of modules, community service and internships as well as adequate financial resources. I sincerely wish that the University or donors are able to provide funds, from corporate sponsors or internal sources, for students who excel in their field of study and want to go on an exchange. Here's to all future students who wants to go on exchange: good luck and bon voyage!"
