SIS Admissions Campaign 2008
To all our SIS Students:
We seek your help and support in making this year's SIS admissions campaign for our 2008 freshmen class a success.
There are two immediate ways to help in this campaign:
1.
|
Communicate to your network of friends and acquaintances who are finishing JC, Poly, high school or National Service that SIS is a very special part of SMU and that completing the BSc (IS Management) degree will really expand their professional opportunities.
Motivate them to look at the SIS web site.
And if you happen to know their parents, share with them your SIS/SMU experience, the accomplishments and career opportunities of our students.
|
2.
 |
Please encourage this same network of friends and acquaintances to come to the SMU Open House on March 08 (Saturday) & March 09 (Sunday) and to make a special effort to attend the SIS Information Sessions.
|
Who are the people you want to encourage to enter SIS?
People so good that if you were to eventually hire them five years from now, they would make your job easier and make you look good as the boss! As you know, we require students who are highly motivated, bright and passionate.
Thank you for your help.
I have provided some background below that I believe will be useful, both for your own interest and in terms of how you communicate to potential SIS applicants.
We are fortunate that the SIS enrolment limit for the 2008 intake has been increased to 250 students, which would be our largest enrolment to date. The 2007 intake was 213.
A major reason for this planned increase is that industry leaders from many sectors of the economy have been asking for more and more of our BSc (IS Management) students. People in industry are telling us that because the SIS undergraduate programme is especially challenging, they can see that students who complete the programme are very solid, capable and exceptionally versatile. They are also excellent in managing complex projects.
We are increasingly successful in getting industry to realise that when it comes to SIS students, they should look at what our students have accomplished and the examples in their "portfolios of experience" as well as pay attention to how the students document their capabilities with respect to our SIS learning outcomes.
Very recently, I met a SMU LKCSB alumni, who has been working in Citibank for several years. He made it a point to tell me that he is very impressed with SIS students because they work hard, hit the ground running, and have an expanded set of capabilities to contribute to the company. That is a very strong testimony of the capabilities and determination of our SIS graduates.
Keep up the good work and the industry will keep responding in this positive way! |
Best regards,
