Masters Degree at Carnegie Mellon, H. John Heinz III College
in Adelaide, Australia
To: All BSc (IS Management) Graduating Students
As all of you know, we have a very special strategic relationship with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). Many of you know SIS peers who have headed to CMU's main campus in Pittsburgh for the SMU BSc (IS Management) – CMU Masters Fast-Track.
For our BSc (IS Management) graduating students, here is another very special opportunity for getting a Masters Degree at Carnegie Mellon.
Several years ago, Carnegie Mellon and the Australian government partnered to establish a Carnegie Mellon campus in Adelaide, Australia.
At this campus, the Carnegie Mellon Heinz College offers two degrees:

The Carnegie Mellon Heinz College is internationally renowned for both of these programmes. The programmes at the Australia campus are the same degree programmes as those offered at their main campus in Pittsburgh. A number of the Pittsburgh faculty spend time teaching at the Australia campus.
For all of you who are interested in exploring this opportunity, faculty from the Carnegie Mellon Heinz College are willing to host a “Virtual Live Discussion” where you can talk to them via an Infocomm facilitated virtual conference. They are also willing to come here to speak with interested BSc (IS Management) graduating students in person after this Virtual Live Discussion.
Please email us at sis_ugrad@smu.edu.sg if you would definitely attend the Virtual Live Discussion with faculty from the Carnegie Mellon Heinz College Australia Campus.
Once we get commitments from interested students for attending this event, we can set the date and time.
Please look into this. For some of you, this will be a wonderful opportunity. Given you will definitely get scholarship support if you are accepted, it is an excellent deal as well.

For those students graduating in December, you would be eligible for the January 2010 intake. For those graduating in May, you would be in time for the August 2010 intake.
Additional Background is Given Below.
Per their MS in Information Technology, they also interweave IT, Management and Business together in innovative ways, similar to what we do.
Per their MS in Public Policy & Management, it provides an excellent background for either public sector, non-profit or profit-sector employment after graduation.
The Carnegie Mellon Heinz College and the SMU School of Information Systems are closely related. We are in essence “siblings”. Many of the early ideas for our SIS BSc (IS Management) curriculum were motivated by H. John Heinz III College programmes in Information Systems. Faculty from the Carnegie Mellon Heinz College have been part of the core team of SIS advisors since our inception and continue in that role today. I continue to play a role in the ongoing planning for the Carnegie Mellon Heinz College.
Because of this special relationship, the CMU would like to launch another SMU SIS - Carnegie Mellon Fast-Track programme where BSc (IS Management) graduates continue for a Masters Degree at the Australia campus of Carnegie Mellon.
It would work like this:
The Carnegie Mellon Heinz College Australia campus has two intakes: one in January, and one in August.
For our BSc (IS Management) students graduating in December, you are still in time to apply for the January intake. Ignore the fact that their website lists a 15 September deadline for January entry. Because of our special relationship, you can apply over the next few weeks!
For our students graduating in May, you can consider if you want to apply for their August intake.
