Openings Immediately Available in the SIS Research Area:
Information Security and Trust
Research Area: The research engineers will join a research project on static analysis of binary executables and malware analysis. They will assist in developing and evaluating research prototypes.
Requirements:
The candidates must have at least a bachelor degree in computer science or related disciplines, and a master’s degree is preferred. The candidates must have strong programming background in C/C++ or Ocaml. Those who have experiences in security research, operating systems programming, static analysis of binary files, and malware analysis are highly preferred.
The positions have an initial contract of one year. Extension to a second year is conditioned on the successful review by the end of the first year.
SIS supervisor: Assistant Professor Debin Gao
Research Area: The research engineer will join a project on the design and prototyping of security architectures and techniques for securing communications, control and management of energy distribution systems.
Requirements:
The candidate must have at least a bachelor degree in computer science or related disciplines. The candidate be proficient with networking. Knowledge of network security or energy distribution systems is a plus. The candidate for research engineer must be Singapore Citizen, or Singapore Permanent Resident of ASEAN origin (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam).
The positions have an initial contract of one year. Extension to a second and then a third year is conditioned on the successful review by the end of the first year.
SIS supervisor: Professor Robert Deng
Research Area: This project will be in the intersection of data security, network security, and system security. In particular, it will involve developing a security framework for RFID-enabled supply chains with EPCglobal Network.
Requirements:
The candidate for PhD student should satisfy general admission requirement (see http://www.sis.smu.edu.sg/programme/PhD/index.asp). In addition, the candidate should have a strong background on Information Security.
The candidate for research engineer must be Singapore Citizen, or Singapore Permanent Resident of ASEAN origin (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam).
The candidate should have a Master's degree in Information Security or closely related area.

Intelligent Systems & Interaction
Research Area: This project is concerned with developing methodologies, algorithms and tools for decision making in distributed / multi-agent environments ranging from supply chain, emergency response and gaming.
Requirements: The candidate should hold a good Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Master of Science or PhD in Computer Science (for Post-Doctoral Fellow position) or related discipline. The candidate must be strong in programming skills (Java/C++). Candidate should also have interest and aptitude in Algorithms and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Business Software, Architecture and Integration
Research Area: This project is in the distributed systems and networking area and will involve building a research infrastructure for massively multiplayer games. In particular, it will research the consistency, latency, scalability, reliability, mobility, and ease of use requirements of such an infrastructure.
Requirements: The candidate should hold a good Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related discipline. The candidate must be proficient with distributed systems and networking and must be comfortable programming in C, C++, or Java.
SIS supervisor: Assistant Professor BALAN Rajesh Krishna
Research Area: This project will be in the mobile and pervasive computing area. In particular, it will involve designing and building new and innovative applications for cell phones.
Requirements: The candidate should hold a good Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related discipline. The candidate must be proficient with cell phone programming (J2ME, symbian, palm, PPC, etc.).
A knowledge of user interface design is a plus.
