Openings for Faculty in Software Systems
Applications for research tenure track positions are invited at at all levels.
The SIS research mission is to address deep technology challenges and management issues in information systems that have the potential to transform the way businesses operate and innovate.
Real-world industry sectors provide SIS with a test-bed and laboratory for experimentation, as well as a fertile breeding ground for new ideas. Our faculty and students apply their research results to solve real problems in a variety of industry settings and to create innovative information technology applications and systems. At the same time, our faculty actively publish in top quality management science and computer science conference and journal outlets. We are seeking faculty candidates in Software Systems who are doing research in the following areas:
- Applied software engineering
- Mobile and pervasive computing
- Applied systems
- Service oriented computing
- Interactive systems
- HCI
- Visualisation of either large datasets (e.g. from data mining,
machine learning) or complex optimisation problems
Research in SIS is concentrated in the following areas: Data Management & Analytics; Information Security & Trust; Software Systems; Intelligent Systems & Decisions Analytics; and Information Systems & Management. SIS faculty members in all areas are strongly encouraged to collaborate on innovative research projects and also on integrative and interdisciplinary projects. SMU's Office of Research, the SIS's Research Centre and the Singapore government agencies (e.g. National Research Foundation) provide generous support for high quality research proposals.
SIS undergraduate and post-graduate programmes produce people who have depth in technology and innovative applications, and also understand IT management. The SIS undergraduate programme is committed to innovative pedagogy. SIS launched the first Ph.D. programme in SMU in August 2006. SIS also launched Master of IT in Business programme in August 2007.

About SMU
The Singapore Management University (SMU) was officially incorporated in January 2000. It is a public-funded institution chartered in a unique way to provide the flexibility and operating characteristics of an American-style private university. Today, SMU is comprised of six schools, and is home to nearly 7,000 undergraduate students and 294 faculty members. It has a rapidly growing number of Masters & Ph.D. programmes and students.
About the SMU School of Information Systems
The School of Information Systems has a Ph.D. in Information Systems programme, with Technology tracks, as well as an Information Systems & Management track. The School offers a Master of IT in Business (MITB), a professionally oriented masters-by-coursework programme. There is an MITB (Financial Services) track focusing on the integration of Technology & Operations in Banking. There is also an MITB (Service Sector Analytics) track focusing on using increasingly real-time analytics to improve customer understanding, operational performance, and agility in service industry that are strategically important to Singapore. Our undergraduate programme, BSc (Information Systems Management), has over 900 students and has been highly successful with job placements.
SMU SIS-Carnegie Mellon Partnership
Since its founding in 2003, SMU SIS has had close working ties with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). CMU faculty members have actively participated in SMU SIS faculty selection and mentoring, and in the design of the SIS academic programmes.
As of 2010, the SMU SIS-Carnegie Mellon Partnership has refocused around the Living Analytics initiative. |
