- Fresh Ph.D.s (or students graduating by June 2009)
- Postdocs looking for a faculty position
- Ph.D.s who are currently in industry but want to return to faculty and research work
- Mid-career faculty who are looking to transition to Asia
AND who have strong application building and publishing records in any of the following areas:
- Applied Software engineering
- Mobile and Pervasive Computing
- Applied Systems
- Interactive / Collaborative Systems
- HCI
- Visualization of Large Datasets (e.g. from data mining, machine learning) or Complex Optimization Problems
- Applied Data Mining and Machine Learning
- Intelligent Agents
- Computational Game Theory
- Fusion of Data, Text, and Media Mining
- Applied Data Security and Privacy for healthcare domains
Currently our school has 35 faculty members (details are found here), and we are in the process of hiring an additional 10 to 15 faculty members over the next 3 years.
Our faculty are clustered in five areas:
Faculty in the first four areas have done their Ph.D. work in Computer Science, Engineering, IT or closely related fields, and publish in the computer science and technology communities. Faculty in the fifth area have done their PhD work in the economics of Information Technology, and in empirical methods for quantifying the impact of IT related innovations, investments or projects.
Hence we encompass both deep systems oriented information technology capability, as well as the ability to analyze and predict the business and management aspects associated with IT applications, systems, innovations and transformations. Mixing people from these different backgrounds is a distinctive feature of the school. Faculty with different backgrounds often work together (e.g. collaborations across our technology areas, or between our technology areas and our IS management area).
While we encourage applied research (addressing real-world problems), our faculty produce high quality research that is published in top research venues. The school facilitates working relationships with industry to make it easier for faculty members to get real data and examples for research and for teaching.
We are quite selective in who we hire and our benefits and salary are very competitive to US employers.
Other important things:
- We provide a lot of career mentoring and guidance to pre-tenure faculty.
-
Since 2003, we have had a strategic partnership with Carnegie Mellon University. This allows our faculty to interact very closely with senior research faculty from CMU. More details are available at here.
-
We have a strong emphasis on educational innovation and effectiveness. We believe that our school should be outstanding in both research and education.
-
The Government of Singapore continues to strongly support the University system and provides ample opportunities for research funding support.
- Note: Ph.D. students are supported by the school. Faculty members do not need to individually fund their own Ph.D. students.
