Education & Practice Track Faculty Openings in the area of Banking Technology & Operations

This individual must have deep experience in planning, designing and implementing banking application systems. He/she must have the ability to conceptualize banking in terms of processes, data, systems and architecture. A passion for developing talents in these areas is essential. The key responsibilities are:

1. Teaching

  • To design and deliver courses on banking processes and application systems for the domains of corporate, private and retail banking, as well as financial markets

  • To supervise masters level capstone projects executed in partnership with the banking industry

  • To participate in on-going development and improvement of our suite of banking technology and operations related courses at masters and undergraduate levels

  • To participate in the design of hands-on lab exercises to facilitate active learning

2. Industry Outreach

  • Be part of our team that holds regular exchanges with T&O heads, CIOs, HR heads for T&O, and leading banking industry vendors and consultants

  • Enhance our efforts to engage with the industry by organizing round table sessions and special seminars both at SMU and on-sites at banks

3. Programme Management

  • Plan and host monthly seminars with industry experts for our Master of IT in Business (Financial Services) programme

  • Work with the banking technology & operations groups to identify and execute MITB capstone projects

  • Support our on-going effort to recruit local and international students for our Master of IT in Business (Financial Services) programme

  • Provide counseling related to student academic performance

  • To advise students on technology oriented careers in banking

  • Work with SMU Career Services and the industry to identify career opportunities for our graduates

  • Liaise with other SMU programmes to ensure coordination

  • Plan publicity and promotional efforts

About SMU

About the SMU School of Information Systems

The School of Information Systems has a Ph.D. in Information Systems programme, with Technology tracks, as well as an Information Systems & Management track. The School offers a Master of IT in Business (MITB), a professionally oriented masters-by-coursework programme. There is an MITB (Financial Services) track focusing on the integration of Technology & Operations in Banking. There is also an MITB (Service Sector Analytics) track focusing on using increasingly real-time analytics to improve customer understanding, operational performance, and agility in service industry that are strategically important to Singapore. Our undergraduate programme, BSc (Information Systems Management), has over 900 students and has been highly successful with job placements.

SMU SIS-Carnegie Mellon Partnership

Since its founding in 2003, SMU SIS has had close working ties with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). CMU faculty members have actively participated in SMU SIS faculty selection and mentoring, and in the design of the SIS academic programmes.

As of 2010, the SMU SIS-Carnegie Mellon Partnership has refocused around the Living Analytics initiative.
