School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University
Synopsis
Deeply involved with networking for over 45 years starting at Bell Labs and continuing in academia, Professor Farber has been a key player in many of the networking activities in the United States. He is called by many the "Grandfather of the Internet" due to his academic children who were among the "Fathers of the Internet".
In his lecture, Professor Farber will examine:
- The impact that networking has had on the world for both technology & social perspectives
- The current chaos on the Internet e.g. spams and other nasty pests and what can be done
- Trade-offs across interconnections, privacy, government security and individual freedom
Plus panel discussion with Dr. Tan Geok Leng, Chief Technology Officer (IDA), and Professor Lawrence Wong, Executive Director (I2R).
