About the Seminar:

The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) was established by the U.S. Department of Defense in 1984 to advance the practice of software engineering. The SEI's core purpose is to help the private and public sector as well as the military to make measured improvements in their software engineering capabilities and to develop the right software, delivered defect free, on time and on cost, every time. Over the past 20 years, SEI initiatives and achievements such as Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERT), Product Line Practice, and Acquisition Support Programs have been adopted world-wide by a numerous private, public sector and military organizations.

This presentation by Dr. Angel Jordan, CEO of the Software Engineering Institute, will cover three topics.

First, he will summarize major SEI programs:

  • Product Line Systems
  • Dynamic Software Systems Impact
  • Software Engineering Management
  • Acquisition Support

Second , he will discuss the "Challenge Problems" that the U.S. DoD has recently posed to the SEI, and the SEI strategy for responding to these challenges.

Third , he will discuss the SEI programs and initiatives related to cybersecurity and homeland security. This includes the following new initiatives:

  • Team Software Process (TSP) Secure
  • Security for Software Architecture Technology

It also includes an update on SEI's internationally acclaimed Network Systems Survivability Program, which consists of:

  • Survivable Network Technology
  • CERT Analysis Center
  • Survivable Enterprise Management
  • Practices, Development and Training (including CERT and OCTAVE related training)
  • CERT/CC
  • Network Situational Awareness

Dr. Jordan will gladly respond to questions about present SEI efforts and future directions.
