About the Speaker

Emmanuel Daniel is the founder of The Asian Banker, the most respected provider of consulting and intelligence in the financial services industry in the Asia Pacific and other emerging market regions. He retains the titles of president and editor-in-chief of the Company he founded in September 1996, and has led it to become a combination of a leading industry research, publication and consulting house in the Asia Pacific region with a strong reputation worldwide.

Trained as a lawyer, and with a career in consulting, Emmanuel started The Asian Banker first as an intelligence publication and added the benchmarking and consulting elements to make it the authoritative commentator on developments in the financial services industry that it has become.

Emmanuel himself has established a reputation for incisive commentary and analysis of critical issues affecting the industry and the region. He interviews and has direct access to a broad spectrum of CEOs, decision makers and significant players in the industry. He is the principal author of several reports and surveys published in the financial services industry that are widely used by practitioners in the region.

The consulting arm of The Asian Banker provides a wide range of world-class research and consulting services to financial institutions in a manner that contextualises global developments to the needs of emerging market financial institutions. The company has developed core competencies in benchmarking in retail financial services, risk management and technology. It runs a range of proprietary assignments and generic programmes for financial institutions in the industry.

Emmanuel travels widely and is sought after as a commentator on the financial services industry as well as and business and trends in Asia. He speaks regularly at high profile events as well as at universities in the United States , Europe and around Asia. He is also sought after for confidential boardroom briefings and training to directors and senior executives of leading institutions on developments in the industry. He has also served in various government advisory committees on the financial services industry and as a member of Council on Corporate Disclosure and Governance in Singapore. He also serves as the non-accountant in the Ethics Sub-committee of the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) of Singapore.

The Asian Banker Journal publication has become an award winning publication and Emmanuel himself was awarded the prestigious Citibank Excellence in Journalism Award for the Asian region in February 1999 for his work in determining the impact of the Internet on banking. He previously served as a committee member in the Entrepreneurs Organisation (EO), a prestigious grouping of young entrepreneurs of businesses worldwide and is an associate member of The Asia Society.

Emmanuel has two degrees from the National University of Singapore and the University of London and attended a course at the prestigious Columbia University in New York. His choices for recreation include horse riding and scuba diving and it is not wise to start a conversation with him on any of the train rides he has done around the world. Born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1962, he currently divides his time between Singapore and Beijing while not on one of his extensive travelling schedules.
