Behavior Discovery in Web 2.0 by Associate Professor Ee-Peng Lim |
||||||
Synopsis The advent of Web 2.0 has witnessed a wide range of web applications supporting different needs of interactions among users, including establishing friendships, sharing files, as well as exchanging emotions and experience. In this talk, we introduce a semantic social network approach to model a community of online users engaging in different forms of virtualized interactions. Based on the semantic social network representation, we study a variety of user and object behaviors within an online community. In this talk, we will highlight our research on studying behaviors in Wikipedia and online rating systems. We have designed several behavior models for discovering quality Wikipedia articles and authoritative contributors from the Wikipedia's edit history. By modeling online rating data as a semantic social network, we conduct research on mining bias (and lenient) raters and controversial (and quality) objects. About the Speaker Ee-Peng Lim is the Head of Division of Information Systems in the School of Computer Engineering, Nanyang Technological University. His research interests include digital libraries, data mining, and data integration. He has published more than 200 journal and conference papers since 1993. He is currently a member of the ACM Publications Board, and the Associate Editor of several international journals including ACM Transactions on Information Systems, International Journal of Digital Libraries and Journal of Web Engineering.
