Abstract

Inference control is to address the greatest concern of statistical offices: Whether some sensitive information collected from individuals can be inferred from published statistical aggregates? This problem has been rigorously studied in mathematics, statistics, databases, management sciences, and information security. Inference control has many practical applications such as health statistics, national census, and business intelligence management. In this talk, I will briefly review the history of inference control research and highlight some recent advancement in this field, especially our results on the protection of contingency tables and data cubes.
