  Abstract

For over 20 years, several researchers have ventured out of the boundaries of their traditional disciplines to study the interaction of finance, economics and information technology. In this talk, we will not attempt to cover the entire spectrum of these interdisciplinary efforts. We will however discuss the field of Information Markets at large, identify the main schools of thought or currents within this field, and chart a map of past and current activities. We will naturally also attempt to make an educated guess at what the most promising future directions might be.

To attain an appreciation of both the breadth and depth of analytical, simulation and experimental work required for the study of Information Markets, we will examine more closely three specific topics. These relate to the innovative application of economics and finance techniques to: (a) Networking (b) Grid computing (c) Digital media.
